Flavin Architects have envisioned this amazing modern-day dwelling embedded into a steeply sloped web page overlooking the Annisquam River in Cape Ann, Massachusetts. The home’s linear structure is oriented parallel to the contours of the hillside, minimizing site disturbance. The stacked massing and galvanized steel detailing of the house remember the industrial vernacular of the Gloucester waterfront, and the dark colour allows the house settle into its wooded website.

To combine the property far more completely with its all-natural surroundings, a tree was planted at the front of the house, extending up by way of the next-floor deck. An exterior steel stair adjacent to the tree leads from the parking spot to a second-floor deck and the home’s front door.
What We Really like: This intriguing residence on the Annisquam River offers its occupants with scenic views from its idyllic hillside place. Integrated into a steeply sloping web page, this house delivers privacy for the bed room spaces while the primary living spaces capture the picturesque vistas. We are loving the plan of the sleeping porch for relatives gatherings and to get pleasure from refreshing, cool breezes off the h2o through the summertime months.

The 1st-floor bedrooms take pleasure in the privacy furnished by black-painted wooden screens that lengthen from the concrete pad to the second-flooring deck. The screens also soften the watch of the adjacent road, and visually connects the 2nd-ground deck to the land.
Simply because the check out of the tidal river and wetlands is enhanced by a higher vantage stage, the open up plan kitchen, living, and eating parts glance more than the deck to a watch of the river.
The principal suite is positioned even increased, tucked into the rear on the 3rd floor. There, the owner enjoys non-public sights of the steep woodland bank powering the residence.
A generous display porch occupies the entrance of the residence, facing the marsh, delivering space for household gatherings and a sleeping porch to take pleasure in the breezes on very hot summer evenings.
