This 1960s midcentury contemporary property in St Weonards, Herefordshire is the great place for shelling out lazy sunny days.
Most likely not a lousy place to invest winter season times way too. But for me, this dwelling screams the summertime. The style and design, the environment and the location are just ideal for when the sun starts to glow, irrespective of whether you are inside of or out.
It was built in 1962, so celebrates 60 many years this calendar year. Not that it is dated. A dwelling like this could under no circumstances seriously date. If anything, in an era of modest plots and even lesser home windows, this is a style and design that has seriously appear into its personal.
You will uncover it at the edge of the village of St Weonards in Herefordshire, set in pretty landscaped gardens and non-public woodland of just a minor beneath two acres Large amount of land and plenty of house inside a residence that also is not small of unique features.
Land and architecture sit properly alongside one another far too, with a design that can take complete benefit of its landscapes, not least simply because of the expanses of glazing framing treetop sights throughout the gardens and the surrounding open up countryside.
If you want to knowledge it, just acquire a hop and a bounce on to a single of the two balconies that hover out from the first floor.
The dwelling sits on an incline and is very very low on it, so a peaceful and private posture that is additional to by the dwelling becoming established back again from a tranquil nation lane. Noise is unlikely to be an challenge below. This is as tranquil as it will get.
The key entrance is beneath the lengthy veranda spanning the front facade. Organic mild is said to ‘stream’ into the brilliant entrance corridor, exactly where thick oak beams are overhead and the original timber floorboards are underfoot.
Originality is surely a marketing stage right here. It most definitely is not a ‘time capsule’ residence, but updates are not to begin with obvious. Those beams, the flooring, the walls of glass, the inner doors, exposed brick and a great deal of the lights are of the unique period.
But a appear at the kitchen area and rest room tells you that a person has looked following and updated this a person with no taking away the midcentury fashionable and nation home attractiveness. It is a modern day household devoid of getting ‘cutting-edge’ modern-day if that makes sense.
As for the format, the kitchen area is positioned in the south-westerly wing of the dwelling, with large picture windows, a massive Aga, Butler sink and appliances established into bespoke cabinetry.
Like all the very best MCM homes, it flows into the rest of the dwelling instead than getting cut off from it. And that topic carries on through the higher flooring.
Floor-to-ceiling windows and the angled ceilings generate a principal reception of the two gentle and area, as properly as a wonderful social region. The balconies are just the cherry on top.
You will also come across two very good-sized bedrooms on this flooring, completed with hand-crafted joinery, a ‘good provision’ of storage and sights of the gardens. The primary bed room also has an en-suite rest room and there is also a examine and significant utility place on the higher ground also.
An open staircase prospects down to two further bedrooms, with a number of ‘spacious’ storage spots created into the staircase.
The decrease amount also attributes an amazing yard area and one particular that is at this time utilised as an artist’s studio. So if art is your issue, this could be the house for you. If it isn’t, then glimpse at it as much more space and possibility. Either way, it’s a bonus. Be aware also the sliding glass doors that direct right on to the garden and terraces.
The gardens are truly worth conversing about much too. The setting is just great listed here.
The comprehensive grounds and gardens have been ‘lovingly made and maintained’ above a lot of a long time. It’s nearly like getting your possess park, though I suspect it will involve some time and routine maintenance to retain it this way.
A variety of areas to sit and appreciate both equally the sights and the varied wildlife that’s a vital element of it.
Inside the floor are a massive wildlife pond, a summerhouse and ‘densely wooded’ spots. The higher terraces are surrounded by beds of herbaceous flowering perennials and are just excellent for some al-fresco dining in the summer months. Sights, of course, are incredibly exclusive.
